# Ukraine Asks Musk to Unlock Starlink for Strikes 200 Kilometers Inside Russia

Ukraine has asked Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, to allow Starlink-equipped drones to guide strikes on Russian missile launchers up to 200 kilometers inside Russia, [according to the Financial Times](https://www.ft.com/content/ff536e6e-dc56-45e3-b5e0-2dfb28148cb6?syn-25a6b1a6=1). SpaceX has not granted the permission. Ukrainian officials say the capability would let them hit mobile ballistic-missile launchers before they fire rather than intercept the missiles afterward. Ukraine says the vessels it targets serve Russian military logistics. Both sides describe the same shift: the war is moving further from the front line and closer to the infrastructure that carries goods and fuel.
