# China Removes Its Highest-Ranked General From the State Military Commission

China removed Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from their positions on the state Central Military Commission on Friday, [The Japan Times reported](https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/08/29/asia-pacific/politics/china-top-officers-removed/). Zhang had been the more senior of the commission's two vice chairmen, which made him the highest-ranked general in the People's Liberation Army. The command changes are happening while Chinese military procurement moves quickly.
