# Drones Strike Tatarstan Petrochemical City, With Casualty Accounts in Dispute

Officials in Nizhnekamsk reported two dead and twelve injured, while a United States-funded broadcaster cited more than ten deaths at an industrial site, as Russia said it destroyed more than 60 drones over Rostov region.

Drones struck the industrial zone of Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan overnight, more than 1,000 kilometres from the front. TASS later put the number of injured at twelve. The target matters for oil markets. Nizhnekamsk hosts the TANECO refinery, TAIF-NK and Nizhnekamskneftekhim, a concentration of Russian refining and petrochemical capacity that Ukrainian long-range drones have repeatedly sought out. Both sides struck during the same period. TASS [reported explosions in Burshtyn and Ivano-Frankivsk](https://tass.ru/proisshestviya/28107331) in western Ukraine, where one of the country's large thermal power stations is located, without giving details. In Moscow, the Kremlin [commented on President Vladimir Putin's statement](https://ria.ru/20260913/kreml-2117375345.html) about the deployment of Western troops to Ukraine, keeping the question of foreign forces in the war publicly open.

Ukraine's campaign against Russian refining capacity raises the cost of Russian domestic fuel and reduces the refined product Moscow can export, which pressures budget revenue that already depends on discounted crude sales. Russian industrial regions far from the front now carry insurance, air-defence and downtime costs they did not price a year ago. Strikes on Ukrainian generation before winter do the same in reverse, raising the external financing Kyiv needs for imported electricity and repairs.
