# Gold Holds Above $4,200 and Silver Near $63 While Bitcoin Falls With Technology Shares

Bitcoin dropped 1.3% to about $83,324 on Monday even after a three-month gain of roughly 42%, moving with Nasdaq futures rather than with the monetary metals.

Gold, silver, and bitcoin diverged again on Monday. Spot gold traded near $4,209 an ounce in early Asian trading, down from about $4,284 late last week, [according to Markets.com](https://www.markets.com/news/gold-price-today-september-28-2026) and [Forbes Advisor's weekend reference price](https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/gold-price/). Silver traded near $63.84 an ounce after a decline of about 0.65%, [according to Trading Economics](https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/silver). Both metals remain far above where they traded before the Federal Reserve began raising interest rates again.

Bitcoin went the other way. It fell 1.3% to $83,324 as Nasdaq futures dropped 0.7% following Donald Trump's refusal to rule out further strikes on Iran, with ether, XRP and solana posting similar losses, [CoinDesk reported](https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/09/28/bitcoin-and-nasdaq-futures-decline-as-trump-won-t-rule-out-more-iran-strikes). The same report notes bitcoin has gained about 42% over three months, outperforming both the Nasdaq and gold across that window. The pattern is consistent: over a quarter bitcoin behaves like a high-beta liquidity asset that rewards risk appetite, and on days when geopolitical risk rises sharply it declines with equities rather than rising with metals.

Globes recorded the intraday combination that produced the divergence, with [oil prices and American government bond yields climbing together](https://www.globes.co.il/news/article.aspx?did=1001557664#utm_source=RSS) after the Hormuz proposal was rejected. Higher real financing costs hurt assets whose valuation depends on liquidity conditions. Metals, which carry no cash flow to discount and serve as a hedge against currency debasement and conflict, attract a different type of buyer.

Elevated metal prices are also visible in the equity market. Shares in the long-established Israeli metals distributor Scope have risen more than 100% over the past year on stronger results and a United States acquisition, lifting the stake of owner Shmuel Shilo to roughly 1.5 billion shekels, [Globes reported](https://www.globes.co.il/news/article.aspx?did=1001557689#utm_source=RSS).

## What this means

The mechanism separating these assets is the discount rate. Gold and silver are bid by central banks, reserve managers and investors hedging currency debasement and war risk, and none of those buyers adjusts positions based on a move in Nasdaq futures, while bitcoin's marginal buyer is a leveraged or liquidity-sensitive investor whose funding cost rises directly with a ten-year yield near 5.2%. Holders who bought bitcoin as protection against monetary disorder are therefore exposed twice: to the same tightening that drives the metals bid, and to the equity correlation that returns during risk events. The precedent is every geopolitical shock since the start of the Iran conflict, in which crude and gold rose while bitcoin fell alongside technology shares. The likelier outcome in the weeks ahead is that this separation persists while the Fed holds a tightening bias and the Hormuz negotiation remains unresolved, with silver the more volatile of the two metals because of its industrial demand component. This read would be wrong if bitcoin rose during a renewed escalation while equities fell.

## What to watch

- Whether bitcoin and gold move in opposite directions on the next escalation headline, the cleanest test of the digital-gold claim.
- Central bank gold purchase disclosures, which show whether official reserve demand is sustaining the metal's floor.
- Silver's behaviour relative to gold, since industrial demand makes it the more sensitive of the two to a growth slowdown.
