Ukrainian drones attacked Omsk on Saturday evening, and [three people were injured](https://tass.com/politics/2207401), Omsk Region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko said, according to TASS. Kommersant [confirmed the figure](https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/9059942) (translated from Russian). Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the Russian government's newspaper, reported that the drones [reached the city's northern industrial zone while air defenses were firing](https://rg.ru/2026/10/24/sily-pvo-otrazhaiut-ataku-bpla-v-omskoj-oblasti.html). Interfax reported that [a logistics center was hit](https://www.interfax.ru/russia/1124784).

The Russian edition of The Moscow Times, which operates outside Russia, reported that the targets included [a petrochemical plant and a warehouse of the online retailer Ozon, about 2,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border](https://ru.themoscowtimes.com/2026/10/24/ukrainskie-droni-atakovali-neftehimicheskii-zavod-i-sklad-ozon-v-omske-v-2500-km-ot-granitsi-a209528). Local outlet Sib.fm said [staff at the logistics center were evacuated](https://sib.fm/news/2026/10/24/ataka-bpla-na-omsk-24-oktyabrya-drony-dostigli-severnogo-promuzla-evakuirovan-personal-logisticheskogo-tsentra-onlajn). Omsk is home to Gazprom Neft's large refinery, one of the biggest in Russia.

In Belgorod, near the border, a drone attack caused [major damage to housing, cars, and social and commercial buildings, killing one person and injuring ten](https://t.me/ostorozhno_novosti/56394), according to the independent Russian Telegram channel Ostorozhno Novosti. Russia's Investigative Committee [opened a criminal case for terrorism](https://ria.ru/20261025/delo-2126821510.html), RIA Novosti reported. Ukraine's military had not commented on either attack in the reports available at the time of writing. Russian state media describe these strikes as terrorism, while Kyiv presents its long-range strikes as attacks on the military-industrial and fuel supply chain.

The war's cost in soldiers also keeps rising. The independent outlet Mediazona and its partners have now identified by name [almost 283,000 Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine](https://kyivindependent.com/almost-283-000-russian-soldiers-killed-in-ukraine-identified-by-media-investigation-2/), and added 6,880 names since early October.

## What this means

Strikes 2,500 kilometers inside Russia force Moscow to spread air defenses across Siberian industrial cities and add costs for refiners, petrochemical plants and e-commerce logistics companies far from the front. Russian fuel output and domestic delivery networks are directly exposed. Insurers and logistics firms will charge more to operate in regions once considered safe. Ukraine can impose these costs cheaply. Russia's main response is to strike Ukraine's power grid as winter approaches, which raises the cost to Ukraine without stopping the drones. The precedent is the energy-strike pause negotiated through US mediation in March 2025: both sides accused each other of violations within days, and the pause lapsed within weeks. The likelier outcome is that both sides continue and expand deep strikes through the winter, so internal-security spending and fuel-supply disruptions inside Russia keep rising over the coming months. This read is wrong if US-Russia talks produce an energy-infrastructure moratorium that both sides observe for more than a few weeks.

## What to watch

- Reports on whether the Omsk refinery or the Omsk Kauchuk petrochemical plant reduced output. Lost output would show whether strikes this deep cut Russian fuel supply.
- Russian strikes on Ukraine's power grid in the coming week. A larger retaliation would show escalation toward a winter campaign against energy targets.
- Further attacks on retail and logistics warehouses such as Ozon's. Repeated hits would raise operating and insurance costs for Russian e-commerce.
