# ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent Order More Than $35 Billion of Nvidia's Export-Compliant RTX PRO 5500

Total orders from China have passed 6 million cards, but Nvidia can make no more than 3 million worldwide in 2027 and has told partners they may receive 5 to 10 percent of what they requested.

China's three largest AI buyers have ordered more than 3 million Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 cards worth over $35 billion, [Reuters reported](https://thenextweb.com/news/nvidia-rtx-pro-5500-china-orders-bytedance-alibaba-tencent), as [summarized by AI Post](https://t.me/aipost/8565). Nvidia designed the card to comply with US export restrictions. The constraint is supply. Orders from Chinese customers have passed 6 million cards, while Nvidia can make no more than 3 million worldwide in 2027. Nvidia has told partners they may receive only 5 to 10 percent of their requested volumes, [TrendForce reports](https://www.trendforce.com/news/2026/10/21/news-nvidia-rtx-pro-5500-reportedly-draws-35b-in-china-orders-with-supply-seen-at-just-5-10/). Samples are due in December and commercial shipments in the first quarter of 2027.

The RTX PRO 5500 is a Blackwell-architecture professional card with 84 GB of GDDR7 memory. It is not one of Nvidia's high-bandwidth-memory data-center accelerators. Its appeal in China comes from its legal status, not its specifications. It is among the most capable Nvidia parts that can be sold there legally. Hyperscalers want it for inference on large models and agent workloads, where memory capacity matters more than the interconnect bandwidth needed for frontier pretraining.

The Chinese government's own stance is a second constraint on these orders. In late September, The Information reported that China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) had told ByteDance, Alibaba and others that it intended to approve purchases, [according to a summary by AI Weekly](https://aiweekly.co/alerts/chinas-miit-signals-approval-for-bytedance-and-alibaba-to-buy-nvidias-new-rtx). Reuters said at the time that it could not verify that report, and no ministry has confirmed criteria or volumes.

## What this means

Two governments control this market. Washington sets the specification ceiling, and Beijing decides whether its champions may buy at that ceiling or must use domestic accelerators. Nvidia gains a large order book for a lower-margin part. Its realized revenue, however, depends on wafer and memory allocation it does not fully control and on a Chinese approval no one has confirmed. Chinese domestic accelerator vendors lose some urgency of demand if MIIT lets Nvidia parts in, and they gain again if it does not. The consensus reads the order as proof that Chinese demand for Nvidia remains strong. The more important fact is that at 5 to 10 percent fill rates, most of this compute will not arrive in 2027, so Chinese labs will keep making efficiency-first architecture choices. The desk's read is that the orders mostly turn into allocation fights and a grey-market premium over the next two quarters, not into a large build-out of Chinese capacity. That depends on Nvidia keeping most Blackwell capacity on higher-margin US and allied customers. A formal MIIT approval combined with a capacity expansion dedicated to this part would change that read.

## What to watch

- Whether MIIT publicly confirms approval and attaches volume limits. Limits would show Beijing using Nvidia supply as a bridge while it protects demand for domestic accelerators.
- Whether Nvidia's next earnings guidance includes this card in China revenue for the first quarter of 2027. Inclusion would show the order book turning into shipments.
- Whether Washington moves to narrow the export rule that covers the RTX PRO 5500. A tighter rule would cancel most of this demand.
