Anthropic deal values Claude maker at about $965 billion

A new $65 billion funding round pushes the AI company past OpenAI. It now sits among the most valuable companies in the world.

Anthropic deal values Claude maker at about $965 billion

Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI assistant, has finished a $65 billion funding round. The deal values the company at about $965 billion, including the new money, the Financial Times reported. That figure puts it ahead of its rival OpenAI.

The jump is steep. Anthropic closed a round at a $350 billion valuation in early 2026. It then raised more money weeks later. In a few months, investors have nearly tripled the price they are willing to pay.

The size of the bet is hard to ignore. Money is pouring into AI very fast, much like in past investment booms. Not every claim around these deals holds up. This week Elon Musk disputed how SpaceX described a data-center arrangement tied to Anthropic. He said a deal listed as three years in official filings actually runs only 180 days.

From an Austrian economics view, valuations like this are what easy money produces. When credit is cheap and investors chase the next big thing, prices can rise faster than the cash these firms actually earn. Whether Anthropic grows into a price tag near $1 trillion will depend on real revenue. It will not depend on how much investors are willing to imagine.
