Israeli Forces Cross the Litani River as Lebanon's Death Toll Passes 3,350
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the advance into southern Lebanon as airstrikes continued despite a declared ceasefire.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces had crossed the Litani River in southern Lebanon, Al Jazeera reported, marking a deeper ground advance into the country.
The human cost has continued to climb. Lebanon's Health Ministry said the death toll from Israeli attacks had passed 3,350, with at least 150 airstrikes carried out in a single day, according to TASS. The United Nations children's agency said 15 children had been killed in Lebanon over the past seven days, and that since the ceasefire was announced 55 children had died and 212 had been wounded, The Hindu reported.
The fighting in Lebanon is unfolding alongside the parallel negotiation over Iran, and the two are connected. A widening ground campaign complicates any regional de-escalation and keeps a risk premium attached to energy markets even as oil prices fall on hopes for the Iran agreement.
