Base-Layer Upgrades Slip on Security Review

Major base-layer upgrades will keep missing their published dates because every change to gas, state or consensus rules must be checked against a large set of immutable deployed contracts and a validator set that has to coordinate, so roadmaps run later than announced and fixes for live defects wait on the same process.

    Strengthened +5

Ethereum core developers cancelled the October 26 Hoodi testnet activation of Glamsterdam and set no new date, after ChainSecurity found 13 deployed contracts exposed to the fork's new gas rules. This is the mechanism the thesis names: gas-rule changes have to be checked against immutable live contracts, and that check now leaves the mainnet date open.

  • Oct 23
    Strengthened +2

XRP Ledger's broad bug-fix amendment slipped to November 4 because validator coordination fell short of the 29-of-35 threshold. Fixes for live defects are waiting on the same approval process as any other upgrade.
