Aztec Ships Alpha V5, Putting Private Smart Contracts Live on Ethereum

Aztec has released Alpha V5, the latest version of its zero-knowledge layer-2 network for Ethereum, delivering what the team describes as the fastest private transactions it has shipped. The design keeps sensitive data off the shared ledger by having each user generate a cryptographic proof of a valid transaction locally, so the application, the sequencer, and any network operator never see the underlying amounts or parties.
The performance figures are the substance of the release. Aztec says Alpha V5 proves a fully private transaction in roughly 2.5 seconds on a consumer laptop, cuts the cost of that transaction by about half to under five cents, and roughly doubles proving speed over the prior version. Block times fall from 14 seconds to six.
