Two Israeli Reservists Killed in South Lebanon, the First Israeli Deaths Since the June Truce, as Rome Talks Break Off
Israel struck Tebnine, Al-Mansouri and Al-Burj Al-Shamali in response and issued its first online evacuation order for a Lebanese village in more than a month, while Lebanon's Health Ministry reported one person killed and 12 wounded.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said two reservists were killed and four seriously wounded when an explosive charge detonated as their unit entered a building in Majdal Zoun, in southern Lebanon. The military named the dead as Major Harel Birenstock, 34, and Sergeant Major Tamir Vaknin, 33, both of the 55th Paratroopers Brigade, and said the troops were demolishing what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure when the charge went off around midday. An Israeli military official said the nature of the explosive remained under review. These are the first Israeli combat deaths since the truce with Hezbollah took effect in June. Israeli officials had already described the round as making no progress. Hezbollah's leader, Naim Qassem, has rejected the framework outright, calling it surrender, while President Joseph Aoun has argued that continued Israeli strikes make the disarmament sequence harder for the Lebanese state to deliver.
