OpenAI Opens Health in ChatGPT to All U.S. Adults, One Day After a Lawsuit Sought to Block It
The feature connects Apple Health data and hospital records from Epic and Oracle Health, and runs on GPT-5.5 Instant for free users and GPT-5.6 Sol for paid tiers.
OpenAI launched Health in ChatGPT on July 23 for all United States users aged 18 and older on web and iOS. The feature lets people connect Apple Health data and medical records, including from the Epic and Oracle Health systems, so the model can compare new lab results against prior tests, summarize changes since a last appointment, and relate sleep and activity data, 9to5Mac reported.
The rollout arrived a day after a lawsuit sought to block it, according to SiliconANGLE, and it revives a feature whose earlier pilot encountered problems roughly six months ago. Free users are served by GPT-5.5 Instant and paid tiers by GPT-5.6 Sol, which OpenAI says reasons more reliably over health detail. The company states that connected records and Apple Health data are not used to train its foundation models or to target advertising, are encrypted in transit and at rest, and are deleted within 30 days of a user disconnecting.
OpenAI has published no clinical accuracy or error-rate figures for the health-specific behavior, so the capability claim rests on the company's own description rather than independent evaluation. In consumer health, a confidently wrong summary of a lab value has real consequences, which is why the legal challenge and the absence of published validation both matter.
