South Korea Deepens NVIDIA-Anchored Sovereign AI Buildout at San Francisco Summit

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, together with senior executives from the country's largest firms, met NVIDIA and ecosystem partners at an AI summit in San Francisco this week to advance Korea's sovereign AI program, NVIDIA said. The gathering builds on an alliance announced during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit under which Samsung, SK Group, Hyundai, NAVER, and the Korean government committed to deploy more than 260,000 NVIDIA GPUs.
The alliance carries an estimated value near 9.8 billion dollars, with industry estimates of total spending reaching 14 trillion won assuming full delivery by 2030, KED Global reported. A government-led program under the Ministry of Science and ICT would place as many as 50,000 of the newest GPUs through the cloud providers NHN Cloud, Kakao, and NAVER Cloud, and NVIDIA agreed to help LG AI Research, Naver Cloud, NC AI, SK Telecom, and Upstage train sovereign large language models using its open Nemotron datasets.
The numbers are commitments through 2030, not delivered hardware, and depend on supply allocation and financing that neither side has fully detailed. What is concrete is the direction.
