The Liquid Network says it is in the final stages of recovery a month after hackers took 4,000 bitcoin, and Solana activates its largest network overhaul since 2020 on Wednesday.

Bitcoin traded at about $82,777 on Wednesday, down 0.28%, in a range between $82,717 and $83,204, according to Investing.com data. Gold fell 0.66% on the same day. Both assets declined as the 10-year Treasury yield held above 5%. During a war that has closed the Strait of Hormuz, bitcoin has not drawn safe-haven buying, and it has moved with liquidity-sensitive assets instead.
The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has approved the country's first bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), Bitcoin Magazine reported. The outlet said bitcoin ETFs had until now been available only to institutional investors in Switzerland. Swiss retail investors have for years been able to buy exchange-traded bitcoin products structured as notes on the SIX Swiss Exchange. The new approval brings bitcoin into a regulated fund structure, which some private banks and wealth managers require before they can offer it to clients.
Custody risk remains the weak point. The Liquid Network, a bitcoin sidechain run by a federation of operators, is running again a month after hackers took 4,000 bitcoin, Bitcoin Magazine reported. At Wednesday's price, that amount is worth about $330 million.
Solana's Alpenglow upgrade goes live on Wednesday. It replaces the voting system the network has used since 2020 and aims to make transactions irreversible, known as reaching finality, in about 150 milliseconds, CoinDesk reported. Months of testing included a failed migration that developers had to roll back.

Bitcoin Trades as a Risk Asset, Not Digital Gold
At each geopolitical or inflationary stress point, bitcoin keeps trading with liquidity-sensitive risk assets rather than with monetary metals, so the digital-gold framing continues to fail exactly when investors most want it to hold.
What this means
Bitcoin's price is tracking US liquidity conditions, meaning Treasury yields and the expected December Fed hike, rather than war risk. That matches the desk's thesis that the digital-gold label fails under stress. Today gold also fell, so the test that matters is a day when gold rises and bitcoin does not. The Swiss approval matters for wealth held across borders. A fund regulated by FINMA can be held inside Swiss private-bank mandates, which opens a channel for internationally mobile clients that notes did not fully cover. The Liquid theft shows the cost of federated bridges and custodians. Each such loss pushes holders toward regulated funds or self-custody of the base asset. The desk's read is that bitcoin keeps trading with Nasdaq-style risk assets into the Fed's December meeting, and that regulated-fund inflows in Switzerland build slowly rather than all at once. The read would prove wrong if bitcoin rallies while Treasury yields rise and equities fall. That would show it trading as a monetary hedge.
